Sustain Africa’s advisory programme in Nigeria was launched on December 1 2023 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Government of Nigeria and Sustain Africa.

Sustain Africa is supporting the government with advisory services aimed at improving farmer access to and use of fertilizer.

Specifically, Sustain Africa will provide a platform supporting the Office of the Vice President  and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security with strategic comparative data analytics  and insights on innovative practices necessary for effective coordination of the efforts of the three tiers of government on fertilizer strategy and policy. The platform will also provide guidance on key agriculture programs towards achieving sustainable outward shifts of the production possibilities curves under an ecosystem that delivers competitiveness, global linkages and financial inclusion to the country’s agriculture economy to meet both domestic and regional food security needs.  The main pillars of the programme are:

  • Stakeholder engagements and community dialogue sessions creating opportunity to capture feedback and inputs into policy formulation round food security value chains and inputs.
  • Learning and information dissemination sessions providing opportunity for stakeholders to showcase scalable innovations and initiatives.
  • Development of sustainable, market-driven models to address the key pain points established through the consultations. A formal presentation will be made to Presidency.

Vice President Kashim Shettima called the initiative, “a significant milestone in the commitment of the Tinubu administration to the prosperity and sustainability of agriculture in Nigeria.  We really need to see what the farmers are going through. Fertilizer is an inestimable input in agriculture and we are finding it difficult to invest in it.”

The MoU was signed on behalf of the Federal Government by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Agribusiness, Dr. Kingsley Uzoma, and by Mr. Michael Sudarkasa, CEO of AFAP,  on behalf of Sustain Africa. Also present was Minister of State for Agriculture, Sen. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi and Ben Valk, Executive Director of Sustain Africa.

We are in planning stages.
Country coming soon.
